May 24 Program announced. Life is good. Make models not code. Design once, run anywhere.

Mentoring organizations can begin submitting applications to SIDE-Labs.

June 4 Mentoring organization application deadline.

SIDE-Labs program administrators review organization applications.

7 List of accepted mentoring organizations published on the SUMO 2010 site.

Would-be student participants discuss application ideas with mentoring organizations.

Student application period opens.

Mentoring organizations review and rank student proposals; where necessary, mentoring organizations may request further proposal detail from the student applicant.

11 Student application deadline.

All mentors must be signed up and all student proposals matched with a mentor

Student ranking/scoring deadline. Please do not add private comments with a nonzero score or mark students as ineligible (unless doing so as part of resolving duplicate accepted students) after this deadline - 17:00 UTC

IRC meeting to resolve any outstanding duplicate accepted students - timing TBD, will be announced well in advance

14 Accepted student proposals announced on the SUMO 2010 site.

Students begin coding for their SUMO projects;

SIDE-Labs begins issuing initial student payments provided tax forms are on file and students are in good standing with their communities.

Interim Period Mentors give students a helping hand and guidance on their projects.
July 15 Mentors and students can begin submitting mid-term evaluations.
31 Mid-term evaluations deadline;

SIDE-Labs begins issuing mid-term student payments provided passing student survey is on file.

Interim Period Mentors give students a helping hand and guidance on their projects.
August 23 Suggested 'pencils down' date. Take a week to scrub models & code, write tests, improve documentation, etc.
30 Firm 'pencils down' date.

Mentors, students and organization administrators can begin submitting final evaluations to SIDE-Labs.

September 14 Final evaluation deadline.

SIDE-Labs begins issuing student and mentoring organization payments provided forms and evaluations are on file.

28 Students can begin submitting required code samples to SIDE-Labs
30 Final results of SUMO 2010 announced

No Mentor Summit at SIDE-Labs this first year because all resources are focused on modelling and coding. Moreover, flying by plane is not sustainable :-) Next year, representatives from each successfully participating organization will be invited to SIDE-Labs to greet, collaborate and code.
